“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.”
― Brené Brown
It can be scary walking into your first counseling session when you don't know what to expect. So, here's a little breakdown of what it entails...
**Even before meeting for a first session, I am happy to talk to clients on the phone (a free 30 min phone consult) so that we can discuss the basics of what is bringing them into counseling and see if counseling is a good fit. I always hope, too, that this conversation creates a little more ease and familiarity for the client, which they can then carry with them into session.
1) Your first counseling session is called an intake assessment and it involves sharing your journey that has led you into counseling. This often means voicing some things that maybe you never have before and I admire the vulnerability that my clients show in this first step of the process. It isn't easy, but it's a necessary step toward change and can often feel liberating!
2) Please plan for this intake to be scheduled as an 80-minute session. There is always so much to cover during this first meeting.
3) Paperwork - new client registration form, consent and disclosure forms, and other various forms that will require signatures.
4) We will begin discussing what your treatment plan will look like - how we identify treatment goals (what it is that you want to work on in counseling) and how we will measure achievement of those goals.
Please download, print and complete this New Client Registration Form as best you can and bring it with you to your first visit.
